Terms of Service

Last updated: 4 May 2026

1. The deal

PlateMap is a free iPhone app for sharing photos and ratings of specific dishes. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use PlateMap.

2. Who can use PlateMap

You must be at least 13 years old. If you're under 18, you must have a parent or guardian's consent. We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts where we have a reasonable belief this isn't true.

3. Your account

You're responsible for the security of the Apple or Google account you use to sign in. Don't share your account. Don't create accounts on someone else's behalf without their permission.

4. Your content

You own what you post. Your photos, ratings, notes, and lists belong to you. By posting them, you grant PlateMap a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and adapt them for the purpose of running and promoting the app — including showing them on the map, in search results, on dish pages, and in our marketing.

That license ends when you delete the content. We retain anonymized records (with no link to your identity) for content that the community has built on top of — for example, a dish page that other users have also pinned.

5. What you can't do

You agree not to:

  • Post content that's illegal, hateful, harassing, or sexually explicit.
  • Impersonate someone else, or pretend to represent a business you don't.
  • Post photos that aren't food, or aren't yours to post.
  • Spam, automate, scrape, or otherwise abuse the app.
  • Attempt to manipulate ratings or leaderboards (e.g., paying for pins, running coordinated upvote campaigns).
  • Post anything you don't have the right to post under copyright, trademark, or privacy law.
  • Use PlateMap to harm other users — stalking, doxxing, or coordinated harassment.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attack the app or its services.

6. Moderation

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms or our community standards, with or without notice. Repeated violations result in permanent bans. You can report content from inside the app; reports are reviewed by our team within 24 hours under normal conditions and faster for severe content.

7. Ratings and rankings

Leaderboards and rankings are computed automatically from user ratings using a Bayesian average that adjusts for sample size. We do not accept money, sponsorships, or promotional arrangements to alter rankings. Ever.

8. Termination

You can delete your account any time from Settings → Privacy & Data. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or if we're required to by law.

9. Disclaimers

PlateMap is provided "as is." User-generated photos and ratings are the opinions of the people who posted them. We don't independently verify food quality, dietary claims, allergen information, or venue details. Always verify ingredients and allergens with the venue if you have a serious dietary restriction or allergy.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PlateMap and its contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the past 12 months (zero, since the app is free) or 100 PLN.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Poland. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Warsaw, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms. If the changes are material, we'll notify you in the app and update the "last updated" date above. Continued use after the change means you accept the new Terms.
